Baaya : Where Design Meets Tradition

A few days ago, I was invited to visit the Baaya Design Studio at Lower Parel, Mumbai.
The purpose was to learn about their work and also to check out the #LadiesSpecial Exhibition they were hosting in view of the upcoming festive season in India.
Ms. Shibani Jain: Founder & CEO Baaya Design
A simple one hour tour of their store in Lower Parel, acquainted me with the rich cultural history of our country. The Founder and CEO of #BaayaDesign Ms. Shibani Jain, took us through the various artworks at display at the store and explained the origin and the history of the various art forms prevalent in different states of India.
I was amazed to learn that there are so many beautiful art forms in India, which we as Urban Indians are hardly aware of or tend to ignore.
Baaya connects with the local artisans across the length and breadth of the country and applies their skill to create beautiful, modern yet contemporary pieces that can transform any empty space into a beautiful artistic space. I now let the pictures speak for themselves.
Even my shitty photography skills, couldn't stop me from capturing the beauty of this store. :)

Ling Po: The ancient Pot making culture from Orissa

Moving on to the ladies special exhibition, they had some gorgeous, fun and quirky stuff at display.
Hand painted leather chappals and handbags were my favourite.
Also, there were hand painted Kalamkari umbrellas, handpainted Warli print stoles and sarees and rakhis made using the tradional Dokra art.
The exhibition is from the 6th-10th of August. So hurry up, before it too late.

And last but not the least, My Favourites....!  :)
