AVG – the New Age Samurai

I am an avid traveler and I also love to pen down my impressions and my experiences about the places I visit. The other day I was in a reminiscent mood and started going through all my past escapades and enjoyed having a virtual trip back to all those amazing destinations. So I thought it would be fun to write a mega blog about all my travel blogs!
Budapest
Munich
I rummaged through more than seven-eight years in my database and was able to come up with loads of material. Since my laptop and cell phones are synced, all my photos and articles combined were like a gold medal at the end of a treasure hunt! Excitedly I mentioned my ideas to my husband, and with equal zeal he burst my bubble big time! Very casually he was like “What if some virus infects your cell phone/ laptop and you lose all these precious moments?”

                                               Spain
That got me out of my reverie and I panicked...big time!! My cell phone (as like every other human over the age of 11 today!) is my most prized possession – not as much for its actual value but more for what it stores. But then again I don’t think I mentioned anything which you all don’t know already. But in my case, it is not only about the pictures and the videos, but also tons of personal data, which is most certainly irreplaceable. So when I realized that a single wrong click (however unintentional) from my side, and my data would be lost forever – or worse, fall in wrong hands and I am not even that technologically advanced to know or understanding the repercussions.
So again I turned to my husband with a plea for help and he guided me to a magic genie which would guard my data with almost no effort from my side. It was called AVG – an Android Antivirus app - I immediately installed it, and I have to say, even after a few months, have had no issues.
The app is free on Android and in addition to providing security, it also enables locating your lost phone via Google Maps™, kills tasks that slow down your device, monitors & Optimizes battery, storage and data package usage, hides your most-private photos in an encrypted Vault and much more! For more features you can visit www.AVG.com .
In case you still are not convinced, you can always read up more user reviews on the above mentioned link. So what are you waiting for, protect your cell phones with the new age Samurai called AVG...Now!!

Floral Dress for Spring

Spring's Here...!!!
And like any ordinary Mumbaite I don't really care! Why??
Because in the part of the world that I live, there seems to be only one season - Hot & Humid.
Summers, Monsoons or Winters...it doesn't really matter. Because you will sweat in all these seasons.
But on a positive note...Thank God for Willis Carrier. If it wasn't for this guy I would be cribbing all day on the blog and refusing to step out of my house.
In case you didn't know.. Willis Carrier was an American engineer who invented the modern day air conditioning system.

When I was browzing through my old pictures, I came across these outfit pictures which I realized I hadn't posted on my blog. This was California Spring time, and I was dressed in my favourie floral dress. I love this outfit because it just spells happiness.
Its my Happy Dress.
I wore it on my day out in L.A.

Paint Nite At Vancouver, Canada

Ever since I moved to Vancouver I’ve been looking-out for some fun and interesting things to do. So
when my friend Amita invited me to a Paint Nite I happily agreed to go with her. Complete alien to the concept of Paint Nite, I looked up the internet to find out more. I was surprised to see the popularity and scale of this event not just in North America but Europe and Africa too.

Founded in 2012 Paint Nite is a global community of Creative Entrepreneurs and Local Artists sharing their passion, bar and restaurant owners connecting with their community, and creative-minded employees who love what they do. They host creative social events around the world for people who love to paint and socialize at the same time.

As a kid I loved drawing and painting but the last time I held a paint brush was probably in school. So as excited I was for this event it made me a little nervous too!

When we reached the bar and dining area of Guildford Golf & Country Club where the event was organized, we saw around 25-30 blank canvas boards arranged neatly across the tables ready for the enthusiastic painters to explore.

We just had to pick a seat (if you’re with a group arrive early to get seats together). The hosts were warm and friendly and provided everyone with the paint supplies.
In front of the room was displayed the beautiful painting that each one of us was to replicate. An
experienced artist was present to guide us through the painting. The group was a good mix of different age groups.

There were families having a fun and relaxing Saturday outing, groups of girls on their girls’ night out and even couples enjoying their date night. It was a complete pleasurable atmosphere.

What I loved the most about the Paint Nite:
  •  You are not expected to be an artist to be able to attend this.
  •  There are no judgements whatsoever on your work. So you’re free to paint however and whatever you want.
  •  The idea is to just have fun and a few drinks!
  • And in the end you can take home your piece of art with you. Isn’t that amazing?

If you need a break from your typical night out with a perfect mix of creativity and fun you know what to do. It’ll be the best two hours of your evening having fun unleashing the artist within you!
You more updates on Paint Nite in Vancouver you can follow them on FB.

So-Saree Readers Speak - Yashita

Another saree lover shares her love for sarees today and shares pictures of her favourite saree.
I am seriously crushing over her saree and can't wait to share her pictures with you all.
Please welcome Yashita on the blog. :)

I love to wear our traditional wear i.e. Saree. Though I wear it occasionally I can't define my love for sarees, especially designer sarees.
I went to Kalki Fashion Boutique to buy a designer Saree, as had heard a lot about Kalka's boutique and wanted to pick a saree from this boutique for my cousin's wedding
As soon as I saw this saree I went head over heels for it and when I draped it, it was so beautiful that I couldn't resist buying it.
I love reading So-Saree as it gives me insights about the latest trends, patterns, fashion and much more. Below are a few pics of me wearing this beautiful saree.
Hope you like them.

Thanks Yashita, for sharing your pictures. You look absolutely beautiful.

Maheshwari Silk Saree courtesy Weavesmart

Today I  am going to talk about another of my favourite weaves, and it comes from
Maheshwar, a city in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh.

Maheshwari Saree is a cotton and pure silk fabric woven with zari/ brocade in unique designs. These designs include stripes, checks and florals.
The beautiful conception of the Maheshwari saree dates back to 18th century Madhya Pradesh. That's how the sarees get their name. These sarees were first found and produced in the town of Maheshwar, hence the name. These sarees were initially made of pure Silk, but with time, Cotton was also used for these sarees.
There is a rather interesting legend behind the Maheshwari sarees and it involves none other than Queen Ahilyabai Holkar of Malwa.
The queen herself had ordered various artisans from Malwa and Surat to design a special 9 yards saree which she wanted to gift all the royal relatives who visited her palace. In fact it is believed that the Queen herself had designed the first saree. This saree became very popular with her guests and later came to be known as the Maheshwari saree.

The USP of Maheshwari Sarees is that they are light weight  and hence can be worn during all seasons. Another interesting thing about Maheshwari sarees is that they have a reversible border and hence can be worn on either side.

When the generous people at Weavesmart asked me to pick a saree to style on my blog, I hardly took a second to decide that I would pick a Maheshwari Silk saree.
I browzed through their gorgeous collection of Maheshwari sarees on the website to pick this beautiful piece in dark blue and green.
Extremely light weight and easy to carry, this saree made many a heads turn at a recent event I attended, while I graciously accepted all the compliments coming my way. ;)
